1966 Ferrari 330 GTC
VIN: 8833
First introduced by Ferrari at the Geneva Motor Show in March, 1966, the 330 cars are the successor of the mighty 250. The super grand tourer used an evolution of the 400 Superamerica's 4.0 L Colombo V12 engine. It was substantially changed for the 330 cars, however, with wider bore spacing and the notable use of a true alternator rather than a dynamo generator. The aluminum Type 209 60º V12 produced 300hp and 240 lbs/ft of torque breathing though a trio of 40mm Weber carburetors.
Only about 600 coupes and 100 spiders were produced before the 1968 introduction of the 365 GTC, GTS and GTB/4 "Daytona". The 330 GTC were more like their 275 GTB counterparts than the 330 GT 2+2. The GTC shared the short wheelbase of the 275 as well as its independent rear suspension, and made use of the various improvements added during the 275's two years in production.
Regarded as striking perhaps the best balance between elegant luxury and race-bred componentry, the 330 GTC has a particularly enviable reputation. Unrivaled among the pre-Daytona Ferrari touring cars, the 330 GTC outstrips it predecessors and contemporaries with agile handling, stellar performance, immense visibility, and a comfortable driving experience. Quite simply Ferrari had found the perfect road car formula.
First purchased by the Conte di Calvenzano, Giovanni Lurani, this GTC has led a true international life. Count Lurani, an Italian automobile engineer, racing car driver and journalist enjoyed the car in Italy until the early 70’s when it was sold to a gentleman in Great Britain. It eventually made its way to US in the early 90’s and has had only three owners since.
8833 is an original euro-spec car featuring rare factory A/C. The black paint, black leather interior, red carpets and new Borrani wheels give this 2 seat, Pininfarina designed coupe breathtaking curb appeal. Always well maintained, it was subject to a recent engine service that totaled over $11,000. Seals were replaced, carbs rebuilt, and every component refinished. Electrics were sorted and the car completely tuned and road tested. Maintenance records go back to 2000 showing rigorous upkeep and service including new brakes and rebuilt front and rear suspension.
Upon its arrival at Canepa Design the 330 was examined from stem to stern and any additional restoration has been undertaken to bring this GTC to the highest level. The dash, console, and knee pad have been recovered in original materials; the original seats are being rebuilt with new padding, while reusing the original leather seating surfaces; the paint has been color sanded and buffed to a concours level finish; the lower rocker panels and front pan have been refinished. Every effort is being made to ensure that this Ferrari lives up to the award-winning standards set by Canepa Design.
